Finally! It is finished!

This is a wedding gift for two friends of mine, the theme of which was dragon and phoenix. I figured since I'm terrible at thinking up gifts for people, I might as well draw them a picture! And they liked it! Yay!

The two Lothlorien leaves symbolize their strength together ("Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall"). They're LotR fans, so, of course, they're grasping the One Ring, with an outer inscription that reads "one ring to bind them" and an inner track displaying their names (all in Tengwar). The overall shape of the dragon and phoenix are supposed to be reminiscent of the arms of a spiral galaxy (they're both astronomers), but it didn't quite come out that way. Oh, well.

Watercolor (background) and colored pencils on 140lb hot press, 16 x 22 inches.

I'm sorry, but there will be no prints of this image.

This is amazing! I love the bright colors, and the detail in the feathers of the phoenix and the scales of the dragon.

It must have taken forever to shade all those scales and feathers!

That's a very well thought-out gift. Great illustration, and is that a watermark or tiny detail of a dragon that I see in the wing of the phoenix?
