Artist's Comments

Man, I feel so bad having taken so long to do my half of this trade.... It's been over a year!!! I sure hope you think it was worth the wait!

Anyway, here is *raiagirl in all her dragony glory--an angel of the earth and sky, with a halo of ice and light. :)

I'm sort of happy with this piece. The biggest things I wish I could change: Make the background (especially near the top and around the halo) lighter and make the halo more faint and less like BLAM.

Colored pencils over watercolor on 140lb hot press watercolor paper, 11 x 14 inches.

Character is copyright © *raiagirl , of course. ;)

I think the neatest aspect of this work is the fact that you added in your knowledge of atmospheric phenomena into the depiction of the term 'halo' instead of a typical crown or ring of gold, as seen in most religious applications. :D Shows a lot for the people who know you a little bit. ^^ I think this is a successful piece, though a little ambiguous due to the use of a very similar color for a background, letting the subject blend in with its surroundings. The complimentary colors in the yellows and oranges help separate the subject, however, along with the white clothing.

The symmetry in the wings is very successful - they match, though seem natural in their inconsistencies from one another.

The amount of emotion can be seen most in the face and position of the head, giving the piece a serene, almost heavenly feel, successfully matching the description of an 'angel', as well as the overall pose aiding in this depiction. The white drapery flowing out to either side and behind the dragon almost give the sense of another, more ethereal pair of wings; the draperies have a very nice, weightless feel.

This piece would be more eye-catching if it had more contrast, both within the subject itself and in relation to its background (perhaps a heightening of contrast within the subject would allow it to spring away from the background on its own merits), but overall, this work is a success. A small issue I hold is with the anatomy of the shoulders and wing-shoulders, but important details could be hidden behind the white robes. I enjoy this work the most because of its pose and the execution of design within the drawing, which is its strongest point. Well done!

I dunno; I personally don't have a problem with BLAM colors... ;-)

Definitely a neat character design from raiagirl, and a lovely interpretation by you. That double-rainbow bit is an especially nice touch, and the blue shading on the dragon's body is wonderful.

I think you did a swell job on this piece! :) The halo doesn't look so "BLAM" to me at all. The rainbow haol gives Raia that "protector of the cosmos" kinda feeling that you were perhaps looking for. The whole image reads very well to the viewer I think. Most definately your best yet! I'm sure she will find it worth the wait.

Thank you very much!

Yeah, well, I probably shouldn't do trades until I learn to do them in a timely manner. :P
