This fall's Astronomy Camp for Girl Scout Leaders was extra awesome. Almost all of the leaders were super geeks, and we had three people from NASA attend! Anyway, one of the guys was what you might call the "class clown," and he's a big comic book geek (he even wore a superhero shirt one day). Well, I was working on a sketch for one of the other guys (whose daughter draws dragons!), and he took note. He said I should be drawing comics because some of the comics he reads don't have as good of artwork as I was sketching out. (I'm still dubious, but whatever. Not gonna look a gift compliment in the mouth.)

I've been giving it some serious thought lately. I have a world, flora/fauna, history, and culture laid out for the alien race I created called the Mahki. I've been wanting to turn it into a book eventually, but I'm not sure I have the self-discipline to actually start and--more importantly--finish it. Then it hit me: maybe I could do it like a comic book! The biggest problem in doing this, for me, is the color. Color is difficult and time-consuming for me, and I'm not terribly good at it. However, I've decided to do the drawing I'm currently working on ("Remember the Desert") in almost entirely watercolor, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Plus, watercolor seems to be a fairly easy/quick medium for simple stuff...and I have a huge pile of watercolor pencils that I currently only use for watercolor washes/backgrounds.

Soooo...I'd like to hear what y'all think of this. I know it's not a lot of information, but...I'd like to hear your thoughts anyway. Maybe I'll do a spread or two (or maybe a fake "cover" of sorts) and re-visit this again after y'all have had a feel for what it's gonna be like. The story won't be terribly complicated; I may like to write, but it's not my strongest suit by a long shot.
